Las Vegas, NV- –For Immediate Release– LG Electronics today unveiled IrisAccess™ 4000, a new range of iris recognition products that the Company says “are a generation ahead of the rest.” Debuting at the ISC-West 2005 Security Conference and Expo, the incorporation of readers for leading smartcards?like the HID iCLASS smartcard actually embedded in the models of the new LG IrisAccess™ 4000 product range.
The relationship between the world’s number one producer of deployed iris recognition platforms, and HID, one of the world’s largest smartcard players goes back to early 2003, when the biometric concern integrated iris templates generated by its equipment with HID’s then brand-new iCLASS smartcard.
Commenting that since 2004, LG’s IrisAccess™ 3000 software has allowed the system to issue HID iCLASS contactless smartcards ‘right out of the box’, LG VP? Marketing David Johnston said “The logical next step was to embed the card reader inside our device. It’s aesthetically pleasing in that there is a single piece of hardware to look at. But the real benefit is that there is a lower cost to the customer than would be involved if a discrete reader had to be selected, purchased, installed, then connected to our IrisAccess™ unit. It costs the customer less, involves less effort for the integrator, still delivers the two-factor authentication sought, and provides a big reason for selecting the LG IrisAccess™ 4000 over some other product. In a word, a win for everybody.”
HID’s Director for Partners and Alliances, Dovell Bonnett said “This is an exciting development for us as well. The physical access control market is demanding biometrics more and more, and we are definitely seeing the iris biometric sector meeting these market demands. LG’s IrisAccess 4000 integration is particularly well-suited for government and other large scale applications where multi-factor authentication is and will continue to be used extensively.”
HID and LG’s Iris Technology Division found themselves contributing to two-factor authentication solution on several occasions recently. The two companies’ offerings represent two legs of a three-part authentication approach employed in Canadian Air Transportation Security Authority’s initiative to enroll employees at airports across Canada. The two offerings are also key components in a credentialing initiative announced by Lenel for its OnGuard® security suite.
