Cranbury, NJ, November 29, 2006 — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE– The Transportation Security Clearinghouse (TSC), provider of enhanced biometric networks, back-end technical and vetting services in support of the TSA endorsed Registered Traveler Program in the United States, has announced its selection of iris recognition products and services furnished by LG Electronics USA’s Iris Technology Division for its Central Identity Management System (CIMS). The TSC, a division of AAAE (American Association of Airport Executives) will support a group of TSA-approved providers offering services conforming to TSA Registered Traveler Program Guidelines.
Earlier this week, AAAE announced the commencement of operation of the world’s most advanced interoperable information management system of travelers’ biometric data ? the Central Information Management System (CIMS). Charged with ensuring interoperability, security and efficiency in a nationwide Registered Traveler (RT) program, the CIMS was developed utilizing state-of-the-art technology from Daon, LG Iris Technology Division and Motorola
In announcing the selection of iris technology from LG, Carter Morris, Senior VP for American Association of Airport Executives said, “LG expertise in iris recognition is extensive in both the transportation security and expedited traveler sectors. They bring experience in large scale iris-enabled identity projects, and brought innovative thinking to bear in their approach to this particularly important undertaking.” LG VP-Marketing David Johnston commented that “LG is pleased to be part of this program that will help redefine how security, passenger convenience, and an overall air travel service experience is delivered as a decade where we expect to see air passenger volume double globally unfolds.”
The TSC CIMS has responsibility for compiling and safeguarding all biographical and biometric data acquired by service providers at enrollment. TSC is also the responsible for coordinating background checks on applicants with the appropriate authorities. Once vetted and approved, TSC fulfills the responsibility of correctly selecting, configuring and providing the payload for smartcards issued to customers.
LG Iris Technology Division has a history in both airport security and expedited passenger programs. LG VP-Global Business Development and Sales Mohammed Murad pointed out “LG IrisAccess systems are used in 29 key Canadian airports as part of an initiative to increase security nationwide. LG was also selected in 2004 for TSA-managed Registered Traveler Program Pilots.”
The government pilots in 2004 were forerunners to the public-private partnership approach embodied by Registered Traveler offerings like Verified Identity Pass’ CLEAR™, Unisys’ RT-Go™, SAFlink’s FLO™, and Vigilant’s Preferred Traveler Program. With programs already in operation in Orlando, San Jose, and New York (JFK) and about to start at several other airports, it is expected that 20 airports will offer these programs in the US by the close of 2007.
